The 10X Samurai
TLDR; If you haven’t seen 13 Assassins yet, do so.
We watched 13 Assassins last night. At one point, the assassins find themselves facing tremendous odds, outnumbered ten to one.
It seems insurmountable until you realize they only have to kill ten each.
Programmers aren’t samurai, they’re not ninja, and they’re not rockstars, but cultivating skill is universal....

Running erlang on heroku
Update: Kristian Kristensen writes on how to run webmachine on heroku.
With heroku’s new celadon cedar stack, you can run ruby, node.js, logo, and clojure. Since Heroku uses erlang it in their routing mesh, they may have erlang installations accessible from the slugs themselves.
Let’s try it out with beepbeep.

Hosts on OSX
If you’ve done web development on a local machine and had to juggle multiple applications, you probably wound up assigning independent URLs to each application via the hosts file. And if you’ve jumped between platforms, you may have stumbled for a moment trying to figure out where to add your new records. OSX is no different.
OSX’s host file, located at /etc/hosts contains...

transfer files via rsync with resume
Ages ago, at an old gig, we wound up regularly having to juggle large tarballs when deploying to the staging environments. We used scp, which worked great when there weren’t network issues. I had heard of rsync, but in a windows shop I wasn’t given leeway to change how things were done for our legacy RHEL environments.
But I’ve learned better since.
